Dr. Burkhart is licensed to practice medicine by the Tennessee Board of Medical Examiners and certified by the American Board of Family Medicine. His training & credentials ensure that patients receive safe, effective, and evidence-based care in a welcoming environment. At Burkhart Direct Family Care, many services are included in the price of your monthly membership, while others are offered at wholesale or material cost. This means members benefit from significant savings and never pay extra for Dr. Burkhart’s time, expertise, or attention.

Membership covers a full spectrum of Direct Primary Care services in Knoxville and the surrounding East Tennessee area, available to patients regardless of insurance status.

In-office diagnostic evaluations include comprehensive physical exams, EKGs, point-of-care ultrasound imaging, and on-site testing of blood, saliva, and urine.
Physician visits are available for preventive care and long-term health, including annual and semi-annual wellness visits, chronic disease management, same-day sick visits, convenient telehealth consultations, and home visits when appropriate.
Administrative support is also part of your membership, such as requesting outside records, coordinating care among specialists, managing referrals, and ordering labs or imaging studies.
Pediatric care is included as well, with newborn and well-child visits, same-day sick visits, and sports physicals to keep children healthy and active.

Health Maintenance

Referral for ancillary testing offered through outside testing facilities – colonoscopy ($600+), DEXA scans ($255), coronary artery calcium scores ($100). Female patients may choose to receive mammograms without a referral, but Burkhart Direct Family Care recommends Mosaic Breast Imaging (~$200), and will arrange the referral.

Imaging

Patients are referred to outside radiology facilities. Burkhart Direct Family care uses Abercrombie Radiology and the MDSave program through Tennova facilities, depending on patient preference. – Xray ($55-$180), MRI ($600-$1000), CT scans ($400-$800).

Bloodwork

Patients are referred to Quest Diagnostics, with the closest station being less than 2 miles from the main west Knoxville office. Prices start at $7 per draw. Most routine “panels” are less than $10. Hormone testing is a tad more expensive ($40-$100). Annual bloodwork for health maintenance purposes tends to be $20/year.

In-Office Procedures

Offered directly at Burkhart Direct Family Care facilities - splinting of sprained joints ($10-$30, depending on the size of the joint), corticosteroid injections ($15-20), cryotherapy ($20/session), skin biopsy ($40/specimen, pathology review separate), incision and drainage ($20), laceration repair ($30), ingrown toenail removal ($50).

Pathology

Pathology specimens are gathered at Burkhart Direct Family Care facilities and then sent to East TN Pathology for review. Specimens include those from biopsy and gynecological procedures.

Women's Health

Contraception management is offered at Burkhart Direct Family Care Facilities - NuvaRing ($48/ea), Copper IUD ($937). Depo-provera shots and combined oral contraceptive pills are FREE to members! Other services offered include: PAP smear ($56), HPV testing ($88), Vaginal wet prep ($48).

Vaccines

Regularly scheduled infant and childhood vaccines are free at the Health Department and not offered at Burkhart Direct Family Care. Annual flu shots, covid shots, and TDap are also not offered at Burkhart Direct Family Care at this time.

Prenatal Care

Currently Dr. Burkhart does not deliver infants as part of Burkhart Direct Family Care services. He tests for pregnancy, arranges for prenatal labs, and coordinates care with OB/midwifery providers of the patient's choice. He continues to care for his patients who become pregnant throughout their pregnancy for non-obstetric health concerns.

Medications

Burkhart Direct Family Care has partnered with mail-order pharmacies to provide generic medications to all members in the practice for FREE! Memberships begin one month after joining the practice. Medications are delivered directly to the patient's home address, with up to 6 free shipments/year.

Hormone Replacement Therapy

Males seeking TRT (testosterone replacement therapy) and women seeking HRT (hormone replacememt therapy... typically estrogen and/or progesterone) are managed medically at Burkhart Direct Family Care. The medications themselves are filled at local pharmacies.

Substance Abuse Treatment

At Burkhart Direct Family Care, Dr. Burkhart provides confidential treatment for substance use disorders, including opioid dependence and alcoholism. Care may involve prescription medications such as Suboxone for opioid recovery alongside ongoing medical support and personalized guidance. Every plan is tailored to help patients move forward safely, effectively, and with dignity.

*Only services offered through outside facilities (labs, imaging or other diagnostic centers) are eligible for insurance coverage, since Burkhart Direct Family Care does not work with insurance companies directly. Prices shown are the cash price offerings when known and are paid directly to the facilities offering the services, except in the case of laboratory testing, which is billed to the Burkhart Direct Family Care client account. Patients are responsible for reimbursing Burkhart Direct Family Care in these cases. Actual prices are subject to change. It is NOT required that patients obtain services from the above vendors or specialists in order to become members of Burkhart Direct Family Care.
